Oakland LGBTQ Community Center Needs Your Help

Oakland LGBTQ Center
The first all-inclusive LGBTQ Center in Oakland history needs your help!

Dear Community,

PIC 1Over Pride Weekend, the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center was the target of a violent attack. On Saturday June 27th, a man wielding a golf club, and yelling expletives, smashed the multiple windows of their Lakeshore Avenue offices. This deliberate act is being investigated as a hate crime.

Founded in 2017, the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center is the first Black-founded and led LGBTQ center in California. Its mission is to enhance and sustain the well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals, as well as their families and allies, by providing educational, social, and health related activities, programs and services. The Center offers a safe healing space to participate in LGBTQ events, a library and pantry, and provides access to therapy and peer support groups.

Since the beginning of shelter-in-place, the Center has raised over $100,000 to help mostly Black and Latinx LGBTQ adults, families, and homeless youth pay for rent and find shelter.

Please help support the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center and their vision of an Oakland and East Bay that celebrates the full spectrum of our beautiful LGBTQ community, where all are free to heal and seek joy without fear.
